Dear All,

First off, thank you all for your kind words of support and positive attitude to our announcement.
It is a great motivator to put in those long hours when you know you've got such a great community behind you.
Sincere gratitude from the entire team. Also a big thank you to those of you who have gone above and beyond to spread the news of our announcement.
While it's still relatively early in the development process, it's good to get some awareness out there right off the bat.

We've been kind of quiet lately, but not to worry; it is simply an effect of the large workload placed on each and every member of the team.
Ambitious plans require hard work and much of our focus lies on attaining planned development sprints.

Unfortunately, a byproduct of this is that many of your questions about the F-14 have gone unanswered. I've been gathering many of these and they will be answered in the FAQ section of our new F-14 site section coming next week.
Therein you will also find a lot of information on various features of the aircraft and our design goals for e.g. JESTER AI.

We're due for a monthly update, which will have some information about other developments and the MiG-21.
Thus, I'll be keeping this F-14 specific update fairly short.

Art Development

We're now essentially feature complete on both exterior and interior models for the F-14, including the majority of integration work and animations.
Thus, preparatory work for diffuse, specular and normal map texture creation has begun.

With the F-14, we're pioneering several new techniques based on the tried-and-tested industry standard sculpting and baking workflow.
We've already put this to good use for our other unreleased, in development aircraft, but we're hoping to take it that one step further for the F-14.
We hope we can further enhance the realism of both our exterior and interior textures and the initial results are very promising.

It's very exciting for us as artists to have the opportunity to apply years of accumulated knowledge to a project such as the F-14. We hope to capture every minutiae detail, down to the touched up lumps of paint.

Something many of you have concerns about is performance. We're taking a very pro-active stance on ensuring that performance is optimal at release this time around.
We very much wish to ensure that the F-14 will perfectly on the vast majority of systems, and approaching things more carefully from the beginning will make it easier for us to make adjustments in the future.

Attached below you can see some Work in Progress renders of the cockpit.
Do note that these images have flaws, so take them with a few pinches of salt.


Codebase Development

Not counting the Radar and HUD (two big systems in themselves), the Tomcat contains, by our count, roughly 67 Major systems, of which 37 are related to Flight and Flight Controls.
In addition to this, one must take into account the size and difficulty of both the JESTER AI system and the External Flight Model. Noting that the F-14 is a massively difficult undertaking is putting it mildly.

Currently, heavy focus lies on creation of the AICS (Inlet Control System), Hydraulic System and Electrical System.
These systems, together with the Engine and grouped control systems lay the basis for the construction of the swing-wing EFM that will capture the spirit and real performance of the F-14.

There is yet a long road ahead, and many difficult tasks to complete, but we have absolutely no reservations about our capabilities nor our choice of aircraft.

HAWK FOR DCS WORLD BY VEAO SIMULATIONS IS AVAILABLE IN DCS E-SHOP!

DUXFORD, UK, March 24th, 2015 – VEAO, in cooperation with The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics, are pleased to announce the release of Hawk for DCS World from the DCS e-shop.

Hawk for DCS World includes the BAE Hawk T.1A, an advanced flying-training aircraft and a weapons-training aircraft. While the Hawk T1 is used solely in the advanced flying-training role, the Hawk T1A is equipped to an operational standard and is capable of undertaking a number of war roles.

The Hawk T1 version is currently used at RAF Valley for fast-jet pilot advanced flying training with No 208(R) Squadron, and at RAF Scampton by the RAF Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows.

The T1A is used for weapons and tactical training on No 19(R) Squadron at RAF Valley, and by No 100 Squadron at RAF Leeming for advanced fast-jet weapons systems officer training and operational support-flying. The T1A has four under-wing pylons cleared to carry Sidewinder AIM-9L air-to-air missiles, rocket pods, practice bombs and bombs, and can carry a 30mm Aden cannon in a pod underneath the fuselage centre-line.

“As a current Royal Navy aggressor pilot operating the Hawk T1, I was offered the opportunity to test the VEAO Hawk. I was initially skeptical of how accurate the modelling would be of the handling and the jet engine response. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. I found the controls and aircraft responses accurate. The flight model performs as well as the full motion simulator used by the RAF. Flying in formation was easy and very similar to the real thing. I was extremely impressed by the headset integration and immediately felt operational pilots could benefit from training on this software.
In short, the VEAO Hawk is more than a game and comparable to a military grade full motion simulator. In fact, I would even go so far as to say the terrain graphics are higher fidelity whilst flying at low level.”

Here is a sample of air combat with the Magic II AAMs.
The triangle is the locked IR seeker. The second ring is the NO ESCAPE ring. When it appears, the target is deemed to be so close that no escape or decoy will work. When the target is too close for the missile, the DON'T SHOOT cue (the big cross) will appear.

Servidor tambien intenta hacer sus pinillos dentro de DCS: World, aqui varios modelos 3D exportados dentro del simulador gracias a el plugin de 3DS Max y toqueteando un poquito de LUA para insertarlos en el editor. Los modelos son todavia muy burdos, no tienen animaciones, colisiones, texturas, armamento o sistemas, pero como testeo no está mal. Los videos son de hace unos meses para aca que me he puesto en faena, siendo del mas antiguo al mas nuevo, eso si, siempre con ciento y pico proyectos y ninguno terminado. Sorry por los fallos en los modelos, es una cuestión de ir aprendiendo sobre la marcha.

Progress update on the C-101CC
Buenas/Hi,
We know we’ve been a bit quiet lately regarding the C-101CC, so here is a brief overview of where we are with progress.
* Air Data Computer - the foundations of the ADC were in place with the EB, and it has been further refined and expanded to supply additional systems with data, and drive failure logic in those systems.
* Flight Director - this system is proving to be a major under-taking. The system as installed in the EB is fairly rudimentary, however the system in the CC version takes into account many more parameters in order to refine steering commands.
Due to the inter-relations between various systems that feed into the Flight Director computer, it is taking significantly longer than anticipated to get this system working as per the real unit.
Progress is in the right direction, and we are not far from making a major break-through that will hopefully see this system suddenly completed. Emoticono grin
* Weapons System - this was actually fairly trivial to implement, though the apparent simplicity of the panel belies the underlying logic that drives it.
* HUD - WIP.
* Electrical System - work on this will follow the work on the Flight Director. There are some 20+ additional circuit breakers to implement, in addition to re-assigning some existing circuit breakers to different systems as it is not 100% identical to the EB.
* Navigation Radios - the ADF radios are now implemented and working in basic form. Left to be added are complex systems behaviors associated with such a system, including mountain effect, coastal effect, night effect, static effects, and quadrant error due to relative position of the station to the aircraft. We are aiming to have the most comprehensive simulation of ADF radio in existence.
* Advanced Flight Model - work is progressing very well on the AFM.
We are working like crazy, and we look forward to getting this out to you!

DCS World Website Update

DCS World 2

Each day we are making more progress in moving DCS World 2. Since the previous newsletter, the team has made great progress on AI landing logic, an all-new multiplayer interface that includes such features as Favorites and Filters, new smoke effects, improvements to the lighting and shadows, replaced the general ground texture with a higher resolution one, increased new terrain graphics performance, the ability to load and work with different maps in the Mission Editor, improvements to the Graphical User Interface (GUI), dedicated server, and a new protection system.

We often read questions regarding how the current Black Sea map will look in DCS World 2. Rather than try to describe this in words, we have included a non-edited gameplay video of the freely available Su-25T Instant Action mission “SAM Killer”. We hope this will paint a clear picture.

We are burning the midnight oil and we will release an alpha of Nevada Test and Training Range map once we feel it is ready. Before we can do so though, there are still several items that need to be addressed. These will also include: completing the new multiplayer interface, performance optimization, various unified .exe issues, remaining crashes, and some night lighting issues.

DCS: L-39 Albatros

The next aircraft module to be released by Eagle Dynamics will be the L-39 Albatros. The front and back cockpit are nearing completion as you can see in the included video. This video also gives you another look at the Black Sea map in DCS World 2.

Primary aspects to still complete are an all-new external model and the completion of the cockpit systems and flight dynamics.

The biggest innovation for this aircraft, and a big part of our reason choosing it, was the inclusion of multiple network players in the same aircraft. This technology has been a big focus of the team as of late. This has also been a big reason for our re-design of the multiplayer interface. It is to be determined if this features will be part of the initial beta release.

DCS World 2: Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) Map

We are further improving the Nevada map and moving it closer to Alfa. Items being worked on include adding the various TACAN and VORTAC stations, improving the mountain textures, improving ground object shadowing, and adding collision models to most ground objects.

Included is a video demonstrating the urban density possible with DCS World 2 and the tremendous sense of speed it provides when flying at low altitude. No, no time acceleration is used.

DCS: Strait of Hormuz Map

When not working on the Nevada map, our map team is making steady progress on the Strait of Hormuz Map. Most of the airfields are now placed and a great deal of work is being done on manually improving the elevation mesh and textures. However, this map still has a long way to go with items such as airfield taxi routing, water textures, airbase lighting, ground object placement, navigation aids, and ATC still needed to be addressed.

DCS: Combined Arms 1.5

A lot of new work is going into Combined Arms in regards to improved user control (particularly from the external unit movement control), intercom messages, and improved AI. While a bit too early to show off these new features in this newsletter, we hope to be showing these advancements off soon.

Work continues on the object models, cockpit systems and flight models, but there is nothing new to show this month.

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet

Work is mostly focused on the air-to-ground radar that is making good progress; the team is now starting to create the various sub-modes such as the expanded modes. We have included a couple of images that show samples of the new air-to-ground radar technology that is based on radar reflectivity logic.

Dragging our feet a little -- we're wrapping up some new sculpted artwork and finishing touches on the F-14 product page.
Thank you for your patience during the long publicly quiet period we've had over recent weeks.

We're not announcing any new products just yet, but will be telling you a little more about them and the technology involved. (Sorry to take the wind out of your sails there!)

We will be moving away from the monthly newsletter based updates and into smaller, more frequent updates as we move forward.
